I always questioned why something immensely uncomplicated such as drinking more water, could be so darn difficult to accomplish. You know you need to drink more of it, and you might for a few days, then next thing you know it’s a week later and somehow you’ve forgotten to keep drinking. It’s a simple task, yet easy to neglect.
Hopefully, this post will help you change your water drinking habits forever! But first, let me remind you why drinking water is essential to your well-being.
1. It helps relieve fatigue
This is major for me! A lot of times I wake up and feel groggy. I absolutely hate that feeling. It puts me in a bad mood, and I am not excited to begin my day. After drinking some water, I suddenly start to feel more alert and ready to tackle the day.
2. Water helps flush out toxins
Your kidneys are your little friends that help get rid of all the nasty stuff accumulating in your body. When you are not drinking enough water, they don’t work as efficiently, leading them to hold on to toxins. The more water you drink, the more you urinate – setting those toxins free, and far, far away from you!
3. Water keeps you glowing
Since you are getting rid of toxins, your body becomes healthier, and your skin becomes hydrated! Nothing like nourishing your body with what you put in it – instead of what you put on it. Say goodbye to all of those anti-aging creams, and hello to your tall glass of water.
4. It can help you lose, and maintain your weight
Seriously, this is one of the cheapest (and healthiest) ways to lose weight. When you are drinking enough water, it helps keep you full and satisfied. When you are not drinking water, your body may give you false alarms of wanting food, (especially junk) when in reality you are just dehydrated.
So now that your memory is refreshed on the superb benefits of drinking water, let us take a look at how you can make this whole water habit thing stick!
I totally don’t mean to yell at you guys, but I can’t stress the importance of CARRYING A WATER BOTTLE WHEREVER YOU GO. You can’t make drinking water a habit if you don’t even have easy access to the water in the first place. Put in the extra effort to make sure there is never a moment when you can’t take a sip from your bottle.
So now that we know to carry a bottle around, the next key step is to remember to take sips from your bottle throughout the day. Try to always place the bottle within sight. When the bottle is right in front of your face, it makes it easier to remember to actually drink it.
Last, try reaching for that bottle anytime you feel the urge to snack on anything unhealthy. Sometimes you want to snack on junk just because you simply feel like it. I often get the urge to eat junk food when I am working on something stressful. Instead of grabbing a bag of chips, I’ll eat an apple or banana, and drink the water sitting in front of my face.
After doing this for a while it becomes second nature, and you’ll be feeling refreshed and full of energy in no time. One more thing I should mention is, for those of you who drink alcohol, please remember to drink a glass of water with every alcoholic beverage. Alcohol is dehydrating, and you want to make sure you avoid having a hangover as much as possible because, well… do I really need to explain why?
Anywho cheers to staying hydrated!
